The passion for food and technology come together...It must be “True to Food.”

When Modenus gathers its Design Hounds for a #TrueToFood tour sponsored by “Signature Kitchen Suite” an LG US company with high end built-in kitchen appliances, you don’t think about it you just say yes please!

You mean, I get to stay at the chicest vintage inspired NYC hotel, dine at the finest restaurants, and learn more about a brand that is changing the way we engage with food using technology. Then attend the ICFF, visit a cool rooftop farm in Brooklyn and hang out with incredibly talented designers from around the country.

Our group will be the first guests, to grace the newly built LG US Campus, home to SKS appliance and its beautiful state of the art showroom. We felt incredibly honored and extra special to share those moments with the team.

Above: The Posh Hotel located in lower Manhattan’s Financial District, was once Temple Court and was a clubhouse and residence for professional women affiliated with Greek sororities, then renamed in 1934 The Beekman, one of Manhattan’s original skyscrapers completed in !883. The same year as the Brooklyn Bridge.

Chapel Tower and its vintage vibe can only read as loungy and seductive. You will be transported to another time and never want to leave.

After everyone had a chance to settle in and freshen up, our first evening together took place at the “Manhatta.” When you’re on the 60th floor, the experience immediately becomes magical. The food was great and the view beautifully eery, while the fog and clouds slowly lifted. Cheers to a great first evening, then off to bed for some rest for our early rise to my hometown of Brooklyn, NY.

It was a beautiful Sunday morning and after breakfast we headed out to Brooklyn’s Sunset Park, where we experienced “Brooklyn Grange” led by our new friend, Chef Kate of “Sweetcycle Brooklyn.”

Chef Katy, has the incredible task of running a rooftop farm in the middle of an urban environment. Her passion to provide locally grown produce and educate the surrounding communities and beyond have become bigger than she dared to dream since the farms inception.I encourage to visit the site to learn more about the farm and events that take place there.

Here’s a peek of green haven in the sky that is #TruetoFood in the heart of Brooklyn.

That was the most delicious lunch! The turnips!! However it’s time to walk it off so back on our super luxe bus and off to the ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) we go! Let’s see what’s new and get inspired! Oh and I met a few swimmers (art installations) along the way!

Wow! Could I possibly be getting hungry again? Good thing that the SKS Appliance team has the Designhounds back. Wait! But first let’s take a look around, Rowan and Williams Guild, incredible shop. They have invited us to tour some of its highly curated artisan collection from around the world. Then we will indulge in a delectable dinner at their very own, “La Mercerie.”

On our last day, we visited the LG US headquarters where I tapped into my desire to become a Technicurean cook. In recent years, I developed a passion for good ingredients and increasing my desire to eat more organically and source locally whenever possible. I identify with the “True to Food” connection, and realized that this SKS tour has given us a name for it. Now I’ll be more easily reminded of my personal food goals. The thing is, our food choices effect many things around us. Environmentally to our local community and farms/farmers markets, our food chain is not isolated and has a ripple effect that can threaten our supply locally as well as globally.

From the technology…to incorporating sous vide capability into their pro appliances, the entire visit had me excited about improving my choices as it relates to the kitchen and food. Let’s face it, when your experience is mindful your perspective changes and the opportunity for the simplest meals can be celebratory. Thoughtfulness begins to translate into gratitude. “True to Food”, “True to Life” and living “True to Yourself,” becomes a intentional way to garden our lives by design.

Striving for a greater synergy and shared moments with friends and family makes life more joyful.

I have always believed that it is not enough to have a beautiful kitchen or home. It’s how we move and live throughout the home. What we engage with by sight and touch should have purpose and bring us closer to joy. When you source your food consciously, locally, organically with a thoughtful and greater purpose, your perspective changes on many levels starting from the inside out.

Designing your home goes beyond the aesthetic…Design a better life by the way we live.

Our beautiful tour came to an end after we left the LG Headquarters and headed over to “Battello” for our last meal together. Of course the food was delicious but the company exceptional. There were so many generous conversations about food, life, technology, love, friendship and more. It was authentic engagement with amazingly talented designers and from a brand that is passionate about the work and message that leads them.

Thank you Veronika Miller and CEO of Modenus Media Media, Flo Jo our Designhound VP and Sara Harman, SKS appliances and team, all the talented Chef’s, The BeekmanNY, participating restaurants, Manhatta, La Mercerie, Battello and Brooklyn Grange Farm and others who helped to create a magical weekend of connection and creativity.
